Why I Find Free Palestine Inspiring
I am currently a Product Manager at Amazon and expecting an offer from DoorDash for a Senior Manager role within Strategy team. The new role is expected to pay higher, I will be leading a team and overall has good growth opportunity. My current role at Amazon is okay. Long work hours but we are building actual products that’s used by operators worldwide , so the scope and impact is high. But I don’t foresee a promotion in the next 2-3 years since the team is really tenured ( avg 7+ Amazon exp) and high performers. Should I take DoorDash offer because of higher salary and better title or should I stay with Amazon because the scope and impact is high and I may learn lot more in product management by building hands on with my current team ? How is DoorDash culture in general - wlb, culture , benefits ? TC: 260k Exp - 10yrs #doordash #amazon #offer
Go for the higher paying DD
It sounds like you are switching from PM to BizOps. If so, expect much slower career progression
In my experience, it’s harder to get promoted in product since you are mostly working on long term goals (1-3Y out) vs business where a good YoY improvement over 18-24 months and with some stars aligned can get you promoted
I disagree with your generalization. There are companies where PMs can get promoted fast. Amazon is not one of them
DD, F AMZN
Both are bad
Not worse than my LinkedIn news feed though ;)
Mmm, if you’re not already on a team that promotes quickly at Amazon I’d say leave. I’ve learned that you can’t change the promotion culture of a team, some promote really fast, others drag on for so long, you just need to place yourself strategically
S&O is the most important job function at doordash, so expect high visibility and relatively high pressure too. Although, I would also expect better growth and better WLB slightly.
Better WLB but high visibility ?? That sounds counterintuitive. With high visibility, there is always a long laundry list of items to do
high visibility at different companies means different things, you can’t just assume all companies operate the same way. I’m comparing WLB at doordash to Amazon.
We have a lot of people from Amazon. I once asked on Blind which company has worse wlb, and I got an equal number of responses for each
OP, what’s the doordash TC?
WLB at DD sucks!
How much can it suck compared to Amazon lol
