I’m middle of interviewing for a new role and looking to learn more about the design cultures for some of these companies and leveling. Not sure which projects I’m interested in yet, but I’ve worked on e2e B2B and Saas product design for many years. Any input would be helpful! 10 YOE Currently L64 @ Microsoft (2 years) Previously worked at Amazon as L5 (2.5 years) Current TC 330 (includes sign on) ~270 next year (if i don’t get promoted) Interviewing roles 1. L6 Amazon 2. IC4 Dropbox 3. Staff Designer Okta (low pay decided not to move forward) 4. Senior Staff Designer ServiceNow 5. Senior product designer Netflix #design #interviews #ui/ux #dropbox #amazon #okta #servicenow
I am currently at ServiceNow. I’ve been there a little over a year and overall have been happy with my decision. ServiceNow pays well and the work life balance is great. The org is much larger than I though it would be, so that comes with the pain of dependencies and slow moving projects. Coming from Microsoft, that should not be much of a change for you.
Ohh dang. I was hoping a little bit more speed than Microsoft lol one of the reasons why I want to move is because my team hasn’t released much design in 2 years because there’s politics with my engineer lead. Not enough engineers to work on features supposedly and our directors haven’t really helped hiring more engineers or pushing them to go faster. So they give us ridiculous estimates…
Each team is different, but you will release on a regular schedule. The scope will be limited however. Eng will still pushback too, but often times they will be able to squeeze a bit more into each release than they originally estimated.
Servicenow won’t be able to match your TC. I interviewed with them but they didn’t give me any raise, just matched my current after negotiation. If you want to practice interview proceed with them otherwise confirm on TC
mind sharing what TC they offered, incl. location and level? Thank you
Sr Staff at ServiceNow can match that TC. I am Sr. Staff and make more than that ~400k depending on stock price.
Yeah i spoke with the recruiter and seems to be able to match my estimates! ~400k with room to negotiate if i get other offers. Thank you
@L.Winthorp since you wrote "depending on stock price", can you clarify what equity package you started at ServiceNow? Stock increased significantly in the past year.
Wow 300-400k.. Teach me please!

Wow, so many roles in the pipeline. When did you apply? The September surge I’ve been hearing about didn’t really happen for me. Good luck!
Thank you! I applied during august and early September. I think I’m just lucky due to similar industry. Just chatted with Okta recruiter today and salary for Staff was way lower than what I make now at Microsoft. Supposedly, the level after Staff which is Principal level can match my current salary and saying I’m asking high when it’s employers market. I’m still positive the other roles have higher band for salary. So Okta is out.
