Dropbox is a garbage software for business, don't ever want to work for them

[rant] I really thought about writing this, but I'm sick and tired of Dropbox for business. I don't know how much they pay their engineers, probably FAANG level, but imagination and execution is completely dog sh*t in this company ! - The documents shared in Dropbox do not update if you get logged out. My team and I share a lot (because of company policy we use DP) of things. I update images/designs but they never update for team members. Apparently they don't know what SSE or push notifications are. There is no clear indication that they are looking at a stale version. There is no option to quickly login. There is 1 ducking text that says, "you are not logged in" in the corner. Well Mr Einstein, give me a quick login widget in the same context and show me the latest version. But no. - Pages load as white in chrome. Yes, they have no browser testing apparently and Excel, Word all documents even paper (their shitty document/wiki solution) do not render. I have been experiencing this for the past month. Yes, month. I edit documents offline for now. - Paper is such a stupid solution. Just look at Google docs you morons. Do what they do. But no, the interface is atrocious. - Logging into Dropbox and editing a page requires multiple steps and indirections. Login with company email, wait for the password field to disappear, click button, go to SSO, go to flat Dropbox view. Click edit, select edit in word, wait, load and then finally you see the doc. Like WTF is this user flow ? Also the flat view is not similar to the word editable view all the time. Full disclosure, I wanted to work at Dropbox when I was in grad school. I never applied thinking their interviews are hard. I have interned at Google, Amazon etc. Now I'm glad I never went to this shitty place. Thank you for reading, apologies if I went a little overboard, I was really frustrated.

Drop the “drop” in Dropbox and you have a solution to your problems

Dropbox ‘: Jul 21, 2022

How is a cardboard box going to help them with their file sharing?!

Box ArtVndalay Jul 21, 2022

Try and you will know

I never really understood how this company continues to operate. I guess corporations just keep paying their hefty subscription fees even if the product sucks. I feel this way sometimes with Atlassian and Confluence

Dropbox Jmps Jul 20, 2022

Confluence is good I like it. Jira is fine, not terrible

Oracle zVhY21 Jul 21, 2022

No one cares about user experience or workflows in business products. Once a company buys/subscribes the product, everyone in that company will be using it as they won't have any other option. Even Corporates are lazy to move from one product to another, as they need to migrate the entire stuff and maybe have some sessions to train their employees. So, these products get recurring finance and these companies survive.

Dropbox Jmps Jul 20, 2022

Is all this rant for paper? Yeah we're bad at everything other than the folder that syncs your files. That's why the stock has been flat all these years

Amazon sadi_life2 OP Jul 20, 2022

Partly paper yes and partly Microsoft Office integration for the browser.

Google blindly__ Jul 20, 2022

Some of your complaints are legit but I'm loling at "files don't get updated if you get logged out". Like...of course they don't?

Amazon sadi_life2 OP Jul 21, 2022

Hehe, then why is the stale snapshot still available ? So misleading. Maybe I should have worded that better

Google blindly__ Jul 21, 2022

Because that's as much useful information as the product can allow without violating privacy/auth. You can argue for a more polished UX around it but that's really probably the best underlying product behavior.

Dropbox is a dogshit product

Tell us how you really feel

Amazon sadi_life2 OP Jul 21, 2022

Hehe, Dropbox should have doubled down on collaboration, not just file sharing. Built products similar to Discord, Slack, Lucid Charts/DrawIO, Zoom, Google Docs and then maybe move to emails etc. That's what I really think.

Dropbox Jyyn36 Jul 21, 2022

I agree on building more collab tools

Trust me, I’m bawling my eyes out trying to get folks to build better product 🥲

whats the major obstacle in getting your folks to build something better

Dropbox morninbake Jul 21, 2022

Great place to work with better than faang pay, just a fragmented team and experience. There is a lot of start/stop work that happens (Paper is one of them) and as a result Dbx can do a lot of things but nothing great.
