Might get flamed for posting this but whatever. Posting on a friends account for anonymity Have an offer from Dropbox for IC2: Base: $167k Equity: $70k Currently laid off so no job. Have 8 YOE, last 2 companies I’ve worked at were companies like Uber, Lyft, salesforce, LinkedIn, Square, Atlassian, discord, snap, etc Would you take this job if you were me? I was told my interview feedback only passes IC2, which is weird to me. Thought I did well, but even if I didn’t do great, why even extend an offer? Might as well reject me and go to the pool of thousands of great engineers out there who are looking/laid off from Facebook and Google. For people who will flame me - I have plenty of runway to survive for awhile and so I’m just not sure I want to take this job that feels like a massive downlevel
What was your previous level?
First company was there for 3.5 years. Last 2 company was senior at both for ~2 years each company. So 8 YOE total, senior for 4+ years at the type of companies listed in OP
I was down leveled too. It’s a reflection of the market conditions and not your ability. You will need a counteroffer to negotiate terms in this market. Good luck
It’s employer’s market bro. Unfortunately we need to settle down with what they offer.
Maybe, but I’m not sure that’s true. If I have a plenty of capital to survive for awhile, do I really need to just take the first offer I get even though it feels like a huge downlevel? You might be right but just playing devils advocate, and why I’m posting here
Take it Profile? Backend, Frontend or MLE?
Is it a tier 1 location? Ie nyc, sf, sea? If so that’s quite low. I had almost exact same background a year ago and joined as ic3 400k
Did you have a system design interview or was it straight leetcode?
With 8 yoe I would not consider IC2 a real offer. Don't delude yourself into thinking you can get promoted. Take it and keep looking.
+1 promotion at Dropbox is really hard.
Fuck , I passed Hackerrank and recruiter said we don’t have opening. I mean why will you take OA to begin with
Take it and keep interviewing
Seems like smart advice but not sure how that would work. Would I still include the job on my resume in the future? If yes how do I explain that
Yeah, same question if to show this experience in the resume. I'd personally not want to put it but wondering if in any background check it can come up and may be perceived as a red flag
