Recruiter is asking me to rank team before onsite. Anyone one works/ have worked there could comment on their wlb and management and how essential they are to the business/ chance of being layoff if one happens? Teams are: Customer Growth, Biz platform, New businesses, Dropbox Core, Platform, New Frontiers.
what's the difference between new frontiers and new businesses? I didn't get new frontiers as an option, i just thought it was a different name for the same thing ๐ maybe they weren't looking for my particular level also waiting to do the onsite interview
New frontiers = working on experimental ideas for Dropbox to pursue. Think pre-seed idea/mini startup. Most of their stuff donโt make it to a โbusinessโ. New business = working on launching available new products. Think series A/B mini startups. These are products with ARR goals.
I would probably rank new business and platform top tier teams, particularly new businesss has hellosign.
Customer Growth: Building user experiences on web, experiments for growing products (hellosign, docsend), recommendations engine, acquisition and retention funnels . Customer facing team with direct revenue impact. Dropbox Core: Development and maintenance of new and existing core products in Dropbox with metrics such as engagement leading to ARR impact. Could be Customer facing depending on the team.
These arenโt teams they are the orgs, each has up to hundreds of people. Itโs hard to say how these orgs rate on your questions - each are very important, wlb and management will vary based upon the team and project. There are teams within these orgs th at are more or less important to the business. My recommendation would be if you want to work on new product development go to new business, if you want to work on short term front end growth experiments go to CG, if you want to work on infra go platform, if you want to work on Dropbox the product go with core. Then find a team you like in there.
+1 to what @bgrthn mentions here. These are orgs. I would recommend reaching out and asking specifically what these teams are working on and see if you can get example projects. For example CG doesn't necessarily focus on only experiments or short term goals. They have platforms as well, it's an org with multiple teams. Dropbox Core Org doesn't necessarily all focus on the product, there are some teams focused on short term experimentation based on their charter. It really depends on the charter of the team you pick. Not necessarily the org.
OP are you looking to rest and vest or work on something impactful and grow? I will suggest org/team accordingly. Also are you a frontend, backend or full stack engineer?
Also interviewing for Dropbox and I am backend engineer and looking to rest and vest.
I am Full Stack Engineer. I am in favor of career growth but rest and vest of course isn't bad. I need a 'stable' org the most, just to get my gc done though, and so far dropbox layoff is like Amz high attrition rate to me. Any idea on how steady the company is after the layoff? Are revenue and future look optimistic?
Dropbox layoffs mostly affected employees who were not EPD. It did not impact Software Engineers. These orgs mentioned are stable and growing.
Damn man. Congrats!
Nah I am waiting to onsite. Clarified.
