I currently work at Nike as a Senior Software Engineer with a TC $160K YOE 6 (4 years at Nike + 2 years technical support engineer). I recently joined Blind and realized that for the work I do, this is terrible TC (seriously!). I just received an offer from Dropbox at IC2 and offer from Microsoft at the Senior Software Engineer level. I am currently waiting on the first round of TC from each. I am currently a senior software engineer at Nike so I was disappointed in receiving a IC2 rating at Dropbox and they said they won't budge. I don't know if they are not valuing me or if this is normal to come in at. I felt that Microsoft saw my value and are very excited about me. Pros + cons with both? I don't have the numbers yet but what are we thinking about both offers? I would love to hear thoughts on what I should expect and what I should push for in negotiations with each.
TC wise Dropbox will easily beat Microsoft even though its a downlevel. mSft sucks pay wise. Otherwise both have great benefits n wlb. Dbx is much smaller than Msft. Choose your poison. I would never go with Msft just coz of cheap salary.
Also the talent pool of SWE at Dropbox is way way better
I'm hoping that what I've been reading about Microsoft doubling comp might change the offer potentials. I guess we will see! As a Dropbox employee, what are the pros + cons, especially culture wise? What about promotions and raises? Also are IC2s respected or is it more junior and ridiculous to go from a senior at Nike to a IC2 at Dropbox?
How was your interview at Dropbox?
I loved it! It was a great experience. All of the team members are super smart & kind. No egos from what I found! It was a standard interview process with system design and basic algorithm questions.
Had Microsoft Principal and Dropbox IC4 offers. Picked Dropbox, couldn’t be happier. Especially coming out of Meta to a place like Dropbox feels like life is beautiful indeed :D
Oh!? Please say more! What do you love? Why did you pick Dropbox over Microsoft? What was Dropbox most willing to negotiate on?
WLB is where Dropbox shines. Culture is good, people are great. I didn’t have to negotiate much. I had another offer from a pre-ipo and MS offer came after. I told the number that I wanted and they respected. I reached out to people who had worked at Microsoft and Dropbox both to understand the difference and Dropbox felt like the better option for me. MS is bigger and might have more opportunities and growth, I believe those could be few things for you to consider.
