Dropbox vs Square EM offers
Square L6: ~500k Dropbox M4: ~450k Tier 2 location Both gave me the standard lines in terms of layoffs and promo timing. Both similar big data problems. Square/Block seems to be faster to the L7 promo. Dropbox/Square people what do you think? #engineering #software

Square is full of ex Amazon and culture is similar to Amazon so OP will thrive.

Good offer for tier 2. L7 promo isn’t fast especially for EM’s, most never make it as it’s purely luck and not impact driven.

M4 to 5 at Dropbox is really hard, standard caveat of right place at right time applies though. Dropbox is a sinking ship, I would not recommend.

No leadership or guidance. Hand wavy high level strategy. Having said that, engineering talent is very strong. But with no direction or business strategy we are doomed to create products that either no one cares about or no one knows about

It’s a typical strategy recruiters use to close candidates. You’d be a fool to take them at their face value.

Dropbox is my favorite gig so far, with that said, knowing nothing about square, at square you’re more likely to work on new interesting products. It kinda feels like at Dropbox we half-ass new products, don’t market them and then shut them down.
Marketing is the reason we aren’t as big as we could be. We make some decent shit, but we don’t market it. No one even knows about Dropbox shop, since we never marketed it. Now it’s another shut down operation
100% agreed. Our main issue is marketing. I love working here and pay/benefits/wlb all great but work-wise We half-ass everything, mainly due to higher management frequent changes.

I know Dropbox is famous for wlb, but Square has pretty great wlb too
Great wlb, smart co-workers and decent work. Plus the perks are pretty good too.
