Role is Software Engineer, ML/AI. Main things I care about: 1. learning 2. culture. Location in SEA Meta details: TC 320k (base + equity + target bonus + sign on/4) No team preallocation (would go through bootcamp) Apple details: Siri Search team in ML/AI TC 300k (base + equity + target bonus + sign on/4) Would likely work on search ranking Boiled it down to these key concerns: - Stock stability of Meta - Apple's poor mobility internally YOE 2 #software #apple #meta #ai #ml #machinelearning
Can you share meta break up?
Would you rather get the stock at a lower price or a higher price?
Blindingly take meta, apple refreshers, benefits all suck.. for software engineering, meta would be better. Siri sucks hands down!
Would appreciate input from ML engineers at either company too.
I work on search ML at FB. I’d go for FB Mobility is good, if you want to try other ranking problems. Stock down is a temporary situation, also you get in at a low stock price Growth at FB is pretty good, you’d get promoted to E5 in 2-2.5 years.
are there teams that work on CV / NLP or is that only in FAIR? are most ML teams ranking/recommend?
1/ Yes, there are product ranking teams that have some CV stuff. Don’t expect a lot of teams and a ton of cutting edge work tho. FB ranking teams are very heavy on user recommendations, this is where ranking engineers are good at here 2/ most product ranking teams i would say, you can go to FAIR/FAIAR org tho
Swe at AI/ML org here. Formerly at Fb. What do you mean by culture? Is it WLB or positive interactions or ?
Both. Do you enjoy working with your team and your manager, is it stressful, cutthroat, competitive? Do you learn a lot from people on your team, do you get wide exposure to ML knowledge? How many hours do you typically work per week? How would you compare the culture to FB AI?
I am in a different age range probably, with family and kids. So WLB is critical for me. I honestly didn't have any time for my family or my own self when I was at Fb. But now at Apple it's great. I have time for family AND friends, can enjoy some me-time and can explore ideas/things I always wanted to do. I understand this may not be your concern, but it's a top priority for me. Do I learn a lot? Sure Do I HAVE to learn a lot? Yes at Fb, not at Apple. Is it stressful? Yes at Fb, not at Apple. Exposure to ML? Sure at both Hours/week: 25-30 at Apple, 45-60 at Fb. Positivity of management and teammates: great at both Enjoy working with them? Absolutely Competent engineers? Yes at both (mostly) Pay? Actually I'm being paid more at Apple. Their stock is pretty much stable and keeps increasing, ESPP is great (and even monetarily it's much more than the free meals at Fb!). products discount, Thanksgiving week shutdown, last weeks of the year shutdown, ... they all add up.
Op, congrats on the offer. What's the breakdown of the apple offer ? I would say go with 🍎. Espp plays a big role and the stock is more stable. WLB depends on the team so may be luck
Meta def. It’s stock is at a huge discount rn
What's your approx AAPL breakdown?

Are tech workers as rich as they think we are?
Didn’t know Apple paid well. What were the interviews like? LC + System Design or some AI/ML theory as well?
In what universe apple's pay is good ?
Rounds wise, 1 sysdesign / 1 ml sys design / 2 LC.
