Example: I left FAANG co A for FAANG co B.
Generally speaking, I can't do a job referral or directly communicate with anyone from co A about job opportunities for a year? Do I have that right?

You can’t approach them but they can approach you. If co B practices equal opportunity employment then they can’t refuse a resume simply because the candidate worked with someone. So, with all legal aspects you’d have a paper trail that they asked for referral without you advertising the opportunity.
