Is The Great Salary Reset of 2024 Upon Us?
Spouse just started working at Microsoft and we are considering enroll in ESPP. Quick question, can we sell stock in the account when still working at the company? Or we can only sell it after leaving?
ESPP goes into your personal brokerage account and you can sell it any time you want, even right after it’s purchased. Btw, out of curiosity, what’s your discount %? My friend’s company offers 15%.
Msft 10%
Up to 15% of your income with 10% discount on stock. But it’s quarterly, so your money isn’t tied up as long. It’s actually better than a 15% discount where your money is tied up for 6 months. The IRR is better.
What’s your spouse TC and level
You can sell immediately. And that's the best approach except if u want to hold onto MSFT.
Why is it best to sell immediately? Wouldn’t you have to pay a lot in short term capital gains tax?
its also a great saving mechanism. theres no reason any of us cant live off 15% less. assuming youre not taking on consumer debt, it forces a bit of austerity.
Does Fidelity support fractional shares? I'm confused how I can contribute 1-15%, and how does the rounding happen?
It does support fractional shares although it's not fully fleshed out in all their pages. I do see fractional shares in my ESPP.
The definition of espp here is generic. The stock vests into your brokerage account after the purchase period and you could do whatever with it Immediately
