Onboarded in July '22 right out of college. The last 2 years Apple has started onboarding more and more new grads at ICT2 instead of 3... I was pretty pissed at the time as I had higher offers elsewhere, but Apple had the FAANG status as well as security which has proven to be very valuable over last 1.5yrs. I had very candid conversations with my manager about wanting the bump to 3 quickly and we set very specific measurable goals. I shattered them, got high remarks from both manager and skip as well as teammates, and my manager advocated for the bump but "people team" wouldn't allow it at my first review cycle so I only got a mediocre pay raise and refreshers. I am promised to be up for a midyear bump because they couldn't make it happen after year 1. I get the feeling midyear won't happen and I will be stuck waiting til next review season (October) for the bump to 3. Getting restless and wanna be making more money. On top of all this, I don't think I want to still be coding in 3-5 years but PM life seems lame and full of less money... Should I apply to another ENG role elsewhere before mid-year reviews and have an offer in my back pocket? Leave Engineering and go to trading? Quit and do onlyfans? Help. TC: $162k ICT2 NYC #tech
> Quit and do onlyfans This is the way
Shake that money make like somebody bout to pay ya
Maybe get an offer elsewhere and see if your team can match it? Otherwise… OF is the move.
Time waits for no one and your employer doesn’t care about optimizing your time. Apply elsewhere, begin interview preparations, and keep your options open. Good luck!
Which team are you in Op? I thought only aiml is in nyc and they pay well and promo fast as well.
Apple Pay (WPC). There are lots of teams in NYC office (ASE (formerly AMP), ACS, WPC, small Maps team, etc)
Thank you. Regarding your post, I think your manager seems very supportive, the fact that they actually did put your name for promo indicates that they don’t make empty promises. The market is bad, so maybe you could stay put for one more year and see if you get what you want? In this era of pips and layoffs a stable company with a good manager is indeed a blessing. Earning less for 6 months only doesn’t matter much in the grand scale of things.
Damn 162k for Nyc is sad even in this economy. Time to hop
A raise is still possible. Depends on the people team’s budget ultimately because it seems like your lead and skip are being sincere. You can remind them in a tactful way but not much else at this point. Aside from that: congrats on having a solid TC so early in your career.
Great response here. Only thing I have to add to OP is this: most pay raises come from switching companies. If they wait till October to get you ICT3, then wait till it happens and then interview elsewhere. You'll catch up quickly.
