Legal bans of?
Abortion, I'm guessing. As to whether they are legal, we'll have to wait and see. Several of them directly and explicitly violate Roe v. Wade.
Meh who cares what goes on in Alabama
It's as if going to the courts to stuff policy down the throats of half the country because you can't tolerate building a consensus on the merits first is, like, a bad idea or something.
I’m there with them. It’s fucked up
You people don’t even know if you’re outraged over the outrage, outraged over the bills themselves, outraged because someone thinks differently from you, our just outraged because that’s the dems status quo. the outrage!!!!
Gonna go with the whole outraged over the content of the bills. On this one, I think it's pretty clear.
"....silently cringing at all the rage....”
Cringing at the rage? No. Cringing that this is happening? Absolutely. I felt sick listening to Ali Shapiro interview Eric Johnson from Alabama Pro-Life Coalition. https://www.npr.org/2019/05/16/724089804/author-of-alabama-restrictive-abortion-bill-wants-to-revisit-roe-v-wade-decision He is the one who wrote the bill. During the interview he was asked if he thinks it is appropriate that a doctor terminating a pregnancy that came from rape would be punished more severely than the rapist himself. He actually said "If we are saying that the unborn child is a person, then he, like you and I who are walking around people, if we are killed, it's murder. And so we treat it the same way. We're consistent that the penalty for rape is not as much because you're not killing a person." Do you have any idea how it feels to hear that this man advocate for punishing the doctor helping the rape victim more severely than the rapist himself? The rage is so, so warranted.
Murder is still murder.
I take it you're vegetarian atinlay2? Also, oooof cooourse you oppose a woman's right to choose. Let me guess it's because something something evil media conspiracy theory open your mind deep state stuff. Like our last discussion. Right?
What’s bizarre is that people say the bans are fucked up (when half the time they don’t know what’s in the laws), but these same people don’t think it’s fucked up that nearly 1 million babies are aborted in this country every year. It doesn’t even register with them that they might be encouraging infanticide.
Have you met the people in this thread? Blindly follow the tribe. One outrage to the next.
Dear heart, I love how you pretend that we don't know what's in the laws. As for blindly following, well, that's something you know all about....
People need a good hard look at themselves. 1. "Pro-choice": giving examples of rape or incest is quite clearly lying or using rare edge cases to garner fake sympathy. Virtually all abortion isn't related to rape especially in the US. If the bill gave an exemption for rape but disallowed everything else you'd still be as equally outraged admit it. 2. "Pro-life": the communication of this group is terrible and the attitude seems to be a holier than thou "deal with it" rather than actually communicating a coherent stand on why this bill is good. TLDR: Both sides are fucking crazy.
One side wants to take away a woman's right to choose. The other wants to leave this choice to the woman and her doctor. Yours is a false equivalency.
See crazy all or nothing answers like this are what i mean. Nobody is interested in reaching a solution, people just want to call the other side murderers or anti woman. Why does it have to be a 100% or nothing solution? You just want to project your views on people who don't share your worldview - you really don't care about abortion at all.
Weird analogy but ok
How many of you here can say what it means to be pro choice or pro life? I am a man and other than thinking I sympathize with women I have no clue. I say this because ideally ONLY women should make this choice on the bills. Ideally only they should get to vote to CHANGE the law. Finally, these laws are perfectly in line with what a majority of the people of those states believe in. So as a socially liberal Californian though it is sad , I respect the states rights.
Look up "tyranny of the majority." The majority does not, and should not, always rule.
Where do you draw the line? Should women who have never been pregnant and don't intend to have kids get a say? How about SAH bible thumping moms who pumped out 7 kids? Do inner city mums who have had an abortion get double votes? If you are a male father of an aborted baby who did not want it to be aborted, should you get 3X votes? Line is really unclear once you start making ridiculous assertions like only women can have a say.
They're pretty fucked up bills that are passing
