EA Lays Off Over 200 Apex Legends Testers Over Zoom Call Staff at EA's Baton Rouge office were abruptly let go today https://kotaku.com/ea-apex-legends-bugs-layoffs-respawn-zoom-1850168472
QA testers mostly
Not to be that guy, I know they did a lot and caught a lot of the bugs even the ones made it to prod but a lot of times the developers basically ignored them and pushed the changes to prod which I'm sure was against their will but still. At this point honestly maybe they made the right call as there was really no immediate use for them.
EA is a garbage company, so I shouldn’t be surprised that they would pull something like this. I haven’t supported the company and their practices for years now, and I certainly won’t now with this stunt. Sorry to everyone affected; the game dev industry is brutal, and hopefully they can bounce back soon. 🫡 TC: $44/hr
Man it's the only company where the quality of software was better 20 years ago than it is now.2001 fifa was a beautiful game compared to 2023
I agree. Overmonetization of FIFA, the complete stagnation of UFC games, their greed with EA Play…the company along with Activision and R* to an extent are single-handedly killing the Triple A game industry.
Testers still exist?
Yea gaming companies have ton of QA and have higher DEV to QA ratio mainly because tests cannot be fully automated.
Automated ui testing is garbage and brittle af. Cheaper to hire qa
Damn Baton Rouge had an office?
Labor is cheap there
Great.... as if each season/split release wasn't bad enough already.
Damn.
