Cavalry Captain will ride on a tank
Wow rude Elon. I was a Cav Scout and I can’t ride a horse, I drove Humvees and Bradleys
lol my ds was a cav scout, he told me he's seen some shit
hehe I was peacetime 19D in the 82nd, so the only shit I’ve seen was when I used my e tool to dig my own latrine in the field
Has he told this to his engineers working on FSD yet?
At least he follows his own logic. He’s both the owner and its biggest user.
All Amazon SDM’s are hiding their face.
I know a VP of Software Development at Amazon who was a Supply Chain/Industrial engineer for most her life
Isn't that what tech leads are for? The technically excellent folks rarely if ever want to deal with all of the people management and politics of the management role.
Why do we need managers then? People can report to the tech leads. For admin support there is always HR. Second point is also not true. Technically excellent people have created many of the biggest companies and some of them are still managing those.
@amazon, why do we need management then... Easy... There is already too much work for individuals to do so you separate the responsibilities out. One person/team focuses on management of project, interacting with stakeholders, etc. The other person/team focuses on the technical topics, etc.
I think it’s okay if the manager wrote could at some point but stopped.
I'd very much prefer this wasn't the case... You get "I wrote VB code 15 years ago for a custom sales calculator for my one start-up, so I know you're taking too long solving NP-Complete problems in code..." Types... I'd 100% prefer someone with good leadership and management skills and 0 tech skills over that
@bqvz There is a huge spectrum between the VB type and a seasoned engineer who now performs higher level functions but can still navigate a complex codebase, give good feedback on code reviews, etc
Idk if you need to be technically excellent yourself but you have to at least be technically proficient and know what technical excellence looks like.
Agree?
Disagree.... But at the same time managers should not be paid more than ICs in a lot of circumstances. Even if they have 100s of people under them.
