Twitter has about 300,000 blue verified users, even at $20 a month (which already decreased to $8 given Stephen King called him an idiot), it will generate $72 million dollars a year! Twitter made $5 billion in 2021. Is this his genius master plan? Charging content creators on YouTube sure sounds solid! Dude is gonna bankrupt Twitter so fast! Edit: Elon simps are trying to deny the fact he didn't want to buy Twitter, it was a shitpost/troll which went too far & for the first time, somebody held him accountable for his written words. Edit 2: If you can't get why it's a bad idea to charge your content creators instead of paying them, I don't know what to tell you! It's like a carwash that charges you for washing its owners' car.
This isn’t going to age well.
We’re about to see what happens when an executive acts like a dictator. Hint: It’s not good. Elon needs to listen to other smart people, but he won’t. He’ll just tell everyone they’re fired if they don’t ship whatever list of features he wants, on a whim, within a couple of weeks. Brilliant leadership. Super sustainable and savvy.
Elon Musk bought one the best news aggregator and political notification sites on the planet. Twitter is basically news. Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok are not. Elon now has the ability to get basically anyone elected and they will pay the price for it. I still don’t see how anyone on Blind doesn’t see the real power he holds. It may be a joke, but it’s just a matter of time before Twitter becomes a dynamic news organization with serious political power - all with customers paying to shout. He needs to buy out Parler from Kanye and then consolidate. Then bring back Vine as a service to chip away at short form videos. Subscribers will increase because of all the conservatives coming back to the platform. That will last about a year which buys him time to add more services to the platform to gain additional users.
And you’re so smart. Wow future entrepreneur alert!
Braintrust in teh house.
It doesn’t take a smart person to realize stupidity.
Hey he has to innovate and think different. Other social networking platform pays content creators. He asks them to pay instead. How else would he be called a visionary.
Yeah! A carwash that you go pay the owner to wash his car!
He’s going to alienate the people that bring in content. Sure you can charge $8/month to any rando that wants a blue check, but how many people that actually drive traffic are going to pay for it? BTW verification is a security measure, not status.
I think what this will do, is dilute the power of blue tick, since anyone can buy it now. It will generate revenue for sure
Yeah, like telegram does
Yeah, costing as much as HBO Max to get a blue mark, people will kill to get it!
Even that 72m or 30m per year figure will go further down because verified users will not see as many ads. I am guessing the counter by Elon stans would be that this is just one of the things he will do for increased revenue and that more people will try to get the "verified" status. And they do have a point as he is going to fire a bunch of people to cut costs and eventually overwhelm the remaining employees 9-9-6
Big brain move OP
You’re not accounting for the fact that those 300000 are actually famous or went out their way to get verified. Most folks think they won’t be approved so they never bother. While I’m not for the idea nor am I a fan of Elon, the 300000 number should be way higher if verification just takes 20$. Any person remotely dreaming of being an influencer would consider it a cost of doing business and pay it. That being said, it could work the other way round too wherein verification is no longer valuable so not many pay up
Yeah, bunch of them will leave & good luck having an echo chamber with bunch of losers as your social media.
Do you really believe Stephen King will leave because a blue checkmark costs $20. He obviously enjoys the platform enough to post multiple times a day on it.
Wait for when more and more people try to jump the ship and become blue members. He has now basically opened up a new source of revenue which potentially could be subscribed by all the active members (given the perks of getting better content views, lesser ads, and more promotions). Oh, did I miss mentioning that they are discussing the plan to pay the content creators? And that Vine could possibly be merged into Twitter creating more engagement like Tiktok? I am not bullish on Twitter but there’s so much to look forward to in the coming days.
Yeah, he just haggled the price to $8 based on a single tweet! I guess we will see who is right, simps or ordinary people.
If only he could be as smart as you.
