People say the desired industries usually pay less because there are so many others who are willing to work for less: fashion, gaming and entertainment. I loved my job despite my low salary. I love the exciting perks, projects and trendy challenges. Also, I live in LA so this is the biggest industry to be in. But now I want to start going up the ladder and realize they really treat you like a commodity. (I'm not an engineer) I want to ask people in entertainment industry: do you agree that you get paid less in entertainment? if so, why are you in this industry?
My real name is billy Corgan and I disagree that we’re treated like commodity
What are the exciting perks ?
Movie screening, invitation to award shows, theme park tickets and theme park attraction preview, etc.
Best of both worlds - ticketing Better $ and all the perks of entertainment
You guys hiring?
Yep. Everyday, across the whole business. We are eating TM's lunch (no offense)
Not if you join Netflix
Entertainment industry is full of dirty politics and power play. IT and engineering is never their focus and main business anyway, off course they pay less and work with bare minimum.
Then what made you choose this industry? Are you staying? If so, why?
Job is closer to home (LA traffic is worst) and timing is flexible. Pay is low but still better then Farmers insurance and other big corporates near by my location. So I will stay.
NFLX is a best of both worlds option as well. Though we don't have any theme parks.
Netflix pays really well across all roles. Higher TC than you’ll typically find at any other company in comparable roles/markets.
I heard they fire people a lot too though. Is it true?
My org has been pretty stable. And I've read the turnover numbers are better than or comparable to other tech companies. It's a bit of a meme, probably with a grain of truth, but it's pretty small as far as I can tell.
Not at Netflix, people are paid very well here. Just that the culture is becoming unbearable. Also all the diversity bs is so distracting to the goals of each team.
If I switched to tech I could at least double my TC (250) for my experience and ability level, but I'm just so damn happy and fulfilled here that I'm staying put for at least the next few years.
I can confirm engineers also get paid less in entertainment compared to tech
Yep. Much less
Then why are you in this industry? Just curious
