Depends on the evaluation, which series etc. If series A, then it can be 0.25% Series is like 0.1%
Right now seed. Series A coming in 2 months

At this point, you’re not exactly a founding engineer. Unless you have some extraordinary skills/knowledge. So you’ll probably get less than 0.4%. Don’t try to be pushy about the fact that you have FAANG experience because in the startup world, experience from other fast growing startups (e.g Deel, Miro, Databricks, Faire) is more valuable than FAANG experience. But obviously, they’re interviewing you because you bring something to the table so don’t sell yourself short either. Ask for the range for their equity and negotiate.
FAAnG is my current role but in past I have worked in startups so basically I will be bringing mix of both worlds.
Here’s a good post from Carta: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/peterjameswalker_startup-founders-what-should-you-give-your-activity-7066805030913277952-I3SI
Why link to a post that links to a post, instead of linking to the post that the post links to?
The referenced post is from 10+ years ago so someone else could easily whine that it’s out of date instead of whining about getting full context and needing one more click.
At a startup when I was #6 pre-A I still only got 1%. Back of napkin guess is you’d get 0.1 - 0.3% for under 20 employees pre-A.
