Received an offer letter from Disney Streaming for Seattle. This is for a contracting role through a third party agency. They have been pretty upfront regarding the conversion rate to FTE for folks who get hired through this agency is very high, on a timeline from maybe 4mo to a year. Of course I'm taking this with a grain of salt, it's by no means a guarantee. Team and work seemed cool, think it would be good experience to work on streaming. Current situation at Capital One is that I am a tech lead, but have been feeling pretty burnt out for over a year. I'm lucky if I get a few hours of coding in a week, rest of it is stuck in planning, strategy, meetings. Feel incredibly drained and demotivated to do work each day, also not much energy outside of work to do stuff especially not interview prep. Also looking for some change of pace, been on the same project for 3yrs so getting that itch. Role is Senior Software Engineer at $85/hr (176.8k annual) - Yes HSA / Dental / Vision - No 401k Edit: Negotiated up to $90/hr (187.2k) Low key kind of a downgrade/lateral move, but I'm hoping that there will be better WLB and I'll feel happier coding more than I have been. I also plan on continuing to practice Leetcode and hoping to do a FAANG loop later this year once I'm more prepared. Is it worth jumping ship for this for +mental health and energy to do interview prep? Is it a bad career move? Current: Tech Lead at C1 YOE: 5, almost 6 years TC 195k - 175k base, 20k bonus (Remote, working east coast hrs on pacific time) #capitalone #disneystreamingservices #disney
Stepping stone i assume. Is the contracting role remote? Mental health should that priority no matter what
Yea stepping stone. I’d actually be going from remote to hybrid
I guess I am worried it would look bad on the resume to have a short stint
I also feel the same. Mental peace is on priority and you will also learn new things. I am in the same phase and don’t feel to work at all.
Hang in there!
$90 /hr is crazy low
Even for contracting?

IMO , 170 k in contract is more like 130 140 in FT role . More cons : 1. No PTO or any other benefits 2. You might feel left out or looked down at 3 . You have to beg for contract renewal 4. No proper onboarding I have been a contractor in the past and it aint cool
Hmm yea I have heard contractors doesn’t feel the same as FTE. Do you mean 130-140 FTE cuz lack of benefits/PTO/stock
