Everywhere I go from FAANG to startups, I hear engineers talking about moving into high frequency trading. Could this have any impact on the tech industry? Is this because more people have come to learn about HFT salaries from levels recently? Or is this a really old thing that you guys have seen?
This will likely be engineers on the younger side. HFTs are attractive if you're in strat or a math wiz. No one doing crud at an HFT is getting a 6 figure bonus or a half a million comp. May be you're going to be making marginally better comp compared to your neighborhood fang job, if that.
More like 2.5millon comp for Algo Devs who make it past a few years. But agree with your point.
You must live on the East Coast.
What are all those HFT positions? Are they at traditional banks or crypto? I keep hearing about and wonder if it’s just about maintaining or innovation. In my mind HFT is a thing from the 80’s that is niche nowadays.
What exactly does swe does at HFT?

Why is it so G*damn difficult to move money out of India
Everyone wants to make more money. Not many can. It's like every sport athlete claiming he/she wants to be in the Olympics. How many actually do? High paying hedge funds and trading firms don't hire many. Wall Street has been a thing forever now.
