Basically joined a greenfield team and initiative at a startup along with 30+ engineers but the revenue has dropped a lot YOY by A LOT at least for my team. What should I do? I’ll be looking for a new job ASAP but I also will be having a job gap. How should I tell recruiter without sounding like a job hopper? TC: 300k
Should I coast and interview at this point? Or should I aim to be high performer?
Prepare for interview. Your startup’s success is not within your control. They will have to do the unfortunate to survive even if they’d love to keep you on the payrolls
They’ll still lay you off if you don’t “align with their business needs” regardless of if you’re a high performer and it’s taking longer to find things
Work hard and interview hard. Market is still brutal despite the “market is recovering!” posts. Don’t be close to the front of the queue for layoffs if you can avoid it.
Simple. Don't leave and work hard. If they keep you, they will. If not, you were laid off and you look for a job then.

I would just tell the truth. Startup ain't doing well, rumor of layoffs, so decided to jump shift. Or you can just say google burned me out so decided to take a break
Legit option 2 is what I have been doing, since the job market has been super competitive and Google legit was traumatic before my layoff.
@ex-google, by option-2 you mean that omit the startup employment from resume? Can you elaborate on how google was traumatic? I heard google has a much better wlb unlike Meta.
