Expedia interview
I have an upcoming interview with Expedia for sde2. Does anyone have any idea as to what to expect?
They are laying off left and right. It is just a sinking ship. People expect they will do more layoffs in 2024. High probability of new people being affected. Severance is also very low. If laid off with in an year it is just 2 weeks of pay. If you don't have job may be that's ok. But if you already have a job, keep out. There is nothing green over here.
Oh god! The recruiter mentioned there are multiple hiring events for the month. Are these silent layoffs that are happening?
Yup Expedia is following the current industry norm silent layoffs. As of last week there was a layoff and an email was sent out from CTO about it if I remember correctly. I believe recruiter is just bluffing, because there aren't many open roles if you see the careers portal.
I second @gaidepxe’s opinion , it’s a sinking ship and many of us are looking out already, it’s disastrous to come here at least, I mean you can have this offer but just keep it to negotiate with better offers Other companies are opening up too, so just go for it, severance is 🥜🥜 so better stay away. Also since you have interview. Expect LC medium to hard (rare) System design and 1 complete behavioral round
People have been calling Expedia a sinking ship ever since I joined here 3 years ago. It’s fear mongering. So many companies are laying off while also hiring. This probably means the role you are interviewing for has a business need to be filled while the roles which were eliminated were determined to not be needed.

Even after so many attempts to increase the stock, it took one buyout news to gain momentum. What was the stock price when you joined? If the 5B buyout doesn't happen next year stock will go to its knees and it won't go up for a long time.
