I left Expedia a while ago. Then I started working at top tech companies. IMO Expedia has one of the cleanest architectures. The company went through massive cloud migration back in 2015. Now it has a great microsystem architecture right now. IMO it definitely has better engineering standards than Meta. Surely it doesn't provide good compensation but at least it's a good place to learn good practices of building scalable systems. #expedia
Apparently TC is everything here.
That is why we work… of course nice benefits make the money better. Clean architecture, bananas, nap rooms/pods, autonomy, good management, WLB, etc. all those things make the money better. But the money, that shit pays bills
Welcome to the real world
Architecture is great but servers are budget
Because Expedia overuses GraphQL. Now working at Facebook i realize how wrong our GraphQL architecture was at Expedia 😂 that's completely overengineered
Tc?
Is meta that bad?
I left Expedia sometime back too. +1 on this. At the time I left for better money and role. Their micro service architectures with graphql and kotlin, AWS integrations, data science platforms seem very well thought out and engineered. It was a part of Microsoft originally. 20 yrs back.
Please show me on the doll where Zuck hurt you. It's ok.
Lol
Expedia has too much focus on diversity and not enough focus on delivery. Result - lot of discrimination against Asian and Indian men that the company doesn't even bother to hide. Women get promoted just by showing up. Asian and Indian men need to go above and beyond and put in enough years before they get promoted. And most of the time even that doesn't work. This is the reason Expedia stock price is the same as it was 7 years ago. While the rest of the market appreciated significantly. I worked there for many years and left recently.
Sounds just like Twilio
IMO it's not the case. Indian men get promoted faster than other men due to Aman's influence. Also as soon as he went to GoDaddy guess what he did first? Started an office in India. He could have started any other country like Jordan Amman but he didn't...
well said!!
TC for Expedia?
Idk how much they pay now. Back in my time it was like 130-160k
I was a SDE 2 back then (2016) TC was 130. SDE 2 also weren't eligible for stock grants. Promotion was super political and they had to promote equal number of man and women. I did learn a lot, they had a fairly modern stack and decent wlb that gave the opportunity to learn and understand concepts.
