I have been going trying to get a job for some time. Relocated to the US a few years back, when I initially came to the US, I tried building my own EdTech to train Data Analytics talent across Africa. I raised $50 000 and trained over 120 users (50% actually got contracted). My startup failed and never got to earn much from it. I joined a bootcamp to cement my skills, unfortunately incurring costs in this process. I then had to go back home (Zimbabwe) for a family emergency unfortunately losing my father. This has all increased my responsibilities (ie. the need to take care of myself, help my wife and my family back home). I genuinely believe I will get an SWE role eventually - I am very very persistent, but reaching out to ask for some help either getting referrals if you like and see value in things I have built and my experiences or just feedback on how to improve my portfolio - would really appreciate it Experience: I am a Software Engineer with a prior career in Data Analytics and a Bachelor's of Law. I interned at Google as an Analyst and co-founded an EdTech startup that raised close to $50 000, training and outsourcing Data Analytics talent in Africa. I realized that I spent most of my spare time building projects, this motivated my decision to transition to a Software Engineering career. I recently interned at a biotech startup where I worked on tasks including: 1. building an internal tool automating workflows for our operations team, cutting down a form creation process that would take 4 hours down to 10 minutes. 2. aiding in the migration of our forms from one library (ag-grid) to another (react-data-grid), to lower licensing costs (this incl: implementing custom client-side pagination and implementing filtering and search functionality to name a few tasks) 3. Maintaining test coverage of 75% Primarily worked with NextJS (typescript) and NodeJS I have built a series of personal projects including: i. A pair programming platform: helping bootcamp graduates prepare for coding interviews through a platform matching similarly skilled peers to collaboratively solve timed programming challenges over a voice call. I built the code editor for this project [Django | React] ii. A job assistant platform: leveraging AI to give users a score out of 100 indicating their likelihood of landing an interview for a given job. I leveraged cloud tools (AWS Lambda Functions) to make my requests to OpenAI. I did this in order to bypass a timeline in Vercel (where my platform is deployed) on serverless functions. I also built a custom snake game for users to play while waiting for a response to be generated [NextJS/React] iii. A gamified code editor: where users receive a random programming challenge from close to 2000 challenges I scrapped from Leetcode and stored in a MongoDB database. For each question they solve, users receive a point [NodeJS | React] Link to portfolio: https://emmanuelsibanda.vercel.app/ #engineering #software #swe
