Hello Can a mother at Microsoft go on unpaid or semi paid leave for an extended amount of time after coming back from maternity leave ? Don’t want to leave the baby alone State is Massachusetts if that matters

As a Canadian parent and spouse of a working mom on a year-long, gov’t sponsored maternity leave, it hurts me that we need to have this kind of conversations. To answer your question - yes, I believe so, but this is really a matter you want to discuss with your HR partner, ane look up on Microsoft internal websites where such policies must be laid out.

The family and medical leave act of 1939 allows you up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave within 12 months of the birth of your child, though it says that “intermittent” leave must be at the employers approval.

You should be able to. If not, consider switching jobs. Wayfair offers 12 weeks paid leave for new mothers starting on day 1.
