#dating #marriage #relationships My gf and I am talking about various topics related to relationship and marriage. We both do not plan to get engaged very soon, but we talk about the expectations. She wants a natural diamond ring (not a lab diamond) with a 1.0 karat or bigger. We casually visited Tiffany & Co, Bulgari and Cartier to try some rings and most of the diamond rings were very pricy (as expected). I am working at one of the big techs, so technically I can afford this big purchase. However, I don't want to over spend on a ring either. Any advice? If your income band is high and your gf knows about it, how would you approach it?
3 months gross salary
Honestly depends on age and what your partner wants and what youre willing to give. At your TC, maybe it dont even matter. I spent around 10k. Dont regret it. I do think the diamond rings from like tiffany are not worth it.
Re: Tiffany Many people would still prefer the diamond ring in a mint box or red box, but I am with you.
Yup, jusf speaking after wearing it and after time passes, all rings look the same. Some people in our circle got tiffany rings but smaller carat, i went blue nile and got a bigger nicer ring for half the price, still over 10k. I think it looks nicer and you cant even tell a tiffany from the others. I dont love brand name luxury goods, but at least with a purse you can tell the diff
Your gf is not woke enough to say that diamond ring is about male dominance? Let her know you believe in equality and don’t believe in buying her love, but earning it as a good husband
Umm i got your message, but I want to make her happy with an engagement ring. Of course I am not doing it for male dominance or anything.
This is what I did my wife... I basically gave her the choice of a big ring with normal honeymoon or smaller ring with a kick ass honeymoon. She chose the latter.
Nice! Thats a good way! We haven't really got to the honeymoon topic yet, but I guess we both would chip in for the trip (maybe I would cover more).
Don’t go to Tiffany, Cartier, or other brand names for a diamond ring, go to Costco or a small jeweler. At places like Tiffany, you’re paying for the brand name and marketing, so you will overpay for the same carat and cut by a lot. If you already know the style of the ring she likes, get a ring from another retailer, you will save so much more.
Costco?? Seriously.. you might check out divorce lawyers who accept advanced bookings while you’re at it. This is not the time to be stingy. My wife is certainly not materialistic.. but I knew she wanted something incredible when we got engaged and I didn’t disappoint her.
OP is asking about how much to spend on an engagement ring. There are many ways to still get a high carat, with a preferable cut, color, and clarity real diamond without spending a lot of money, and I’m serious that Costco actually has good high carat diamonds at a way more reasonable price than Cartier/Tiffany. To most people, diamond ring brands are indistinguishable from each other. If you don’t get a name brand ring, you will spend a lot less for the same carat. I’m a woman btw, and I would prefer a 2+ carat ring from Costco over Cartier because I don’t care about the branding and wouldn’t want my husband overpaying for something that’s physically the same.
1-2K, the meaning and value of the engagement ring doesn't change with the TC level.
A ring is something tiny and can be stolen and lost easily, why would you spend 30k on it? If your fiance ever goes to a somewhat shady place, like maybe say Oakland, wouldn't that ring just make her a target?
Insurance duh and you don’t have to wear it all the time
Who is going to display expensive jewelry in the hood? Maybe a pimp …
No wonder you cheap fuckers can't get laid.
I saw this Louis Vuitton star cut diamond ring that looks so unique because they took 3 years to develop and patent the cut and it’s $17k. 🥺 I would buy it for myself but it obviously looks like an engagement ring…

At least 20k. How cheap are you
I am treating my girl quite well. Also I have a house I am putting monthly mortgage, and my gf and I plan to buy "our" home as well. If you think I am cheap, I am ok with it 🙂
