Does this affect your decision to work for fb in any way? We all knew about the negative implications of social media, but it's just official and researched now. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/new-study-claims-facebook-instagram-and-snapchat-are-linked-to-depression-2018-11-09?fbclid=IwAR1IJ3a_dhKWdwRx_Iyy-N8eSC2j92dQuc4On1MCXBAuJgQ_R7LB6ZLR8AA
I personally never intend to work for Facebook even though it pays shitloads of money. The value it adds to the world is incredibly superficial. It is run by shoving ads down peopleâs throats. It has no function that I canât live without. Except, may be memes. And I hate Facebook even more because it acquired and helped grow Instagram. Instagram is the lowest point in the history of human intellect. If we plot a spectrum of human intellect since the beginning of time, the high end will have Newton, Einstein, Shakespeare, Chomsky, Euler, computers. The low end will be the Kardashians and Instagram. And the last two are intricately linked.
Even though I'd never work at fb, I don't see why this should affect an engineer's decisions. We choose our vices.
So if a meth dealer asked you to build some tech for them for $1m TC you would take it, because âwe choose our vicesâ?
Nope, hence why I wouldnât work there. But I wouldnât judge others on their decisions. My perspective is not gospel.
Most of the people here would jump ship in a second if offered a job at FB
If you actually read the study instead of just the headline/article, you'll see that FB causes depression only if you lurk. It isn't true if you engage on the platform.
Of course, you'll not have a bully problem if you turn into a bully, until a bigger bully shows up.
If you actually read the study, cigarette causes cancer only if you smoke 10 packs a day. Research suggests one cigarette after every meal actually helps with your digestion đ
Great, researchers prove things we all knew as common sense. Whoopdiedoo.
Heard of the phrase 'data driven'? Your gut feel might not always be right.
Science is based on the same assumptions as my gut.
