Google Program Manager pay

Hi all. Looking for an idea of compensation expectations for a non-technical PM role at Google. Areas I've been in discussion with include supply chain and X. I have a decade of experience at Big 5 consulting firms, and another 8 years in various roles at big names around the Bay. Current TC is ~$250 (incl equity), but I'm underpaid by the standards of my current employer, which is a primary driver for leaving. Thinking of targeting $350 TC, but wondering if that's low or high. That would be a bit low compared to where I think I should be in my current role but seems like a reasonable jump. Would love any constructive thoughts. Snide remarks welcome but will be probably be ignored.

$350 is impossible

Why?

That is median L5 Swe comp..if you join as IC (L4 or lucky to be L5), the max you can push for is maybe 280-300..there is oversupply of candidates for such pgm roles from Apple and Amazon

If comp is your primary focus, try late stage startups (Uber, Lyft) and get some paper money and hope it shoots the roof on IPO..sadly PGM roles have limited scope for comp increases on jumping ships unless you move up the ladder

I'm not obsessed with comp, but I am trying to correct a low comp level and I've given up doing it where I am now. Moving is my best bet, but Google handles comp and levels differently than most. I'd expect to stick it out there and climb up once there. Comp should grow well once I'm in, I believe.

I also generally expect to have a long happy career at Google, which is my primary motivator. But I want to be sure I'm aggressively tackling comp too.

250 TC is not so bad. Most L5 program managers are 250-300 here. Almost impossible to be hired at L6. You are non-technical, which doesn't help on the TC side.

I'm half technical. Def a tech background and working half tech and half process these days. But yes not enough to be considered fully tech.

What would be the pivot point coming in as L4 vs L5 for Program Mgr?

Based on the little I know, some candidates are assessed at a pre-determined level and that’s known to the interviewers. But most are assessed at multiple levels to see where you are. I don’t know how that’s determined, but guessing it has to have something to do with your current experience level.
