I see wayy too many people here who in many ways feel that being in Faang is legit the only way to be happy and successful. I think that really isn’t true tho. Thoughts?
It’s not true, but I think all SWE wanna be like “I made it in. Now it’s whatever”
To me, it's just a way to make $$$. Nothing else
Definitely overhyped imho. If you love the product and like the team even if you're not making FAANG money I think that's a pretty sweet deal.
That's what all lowballers underachievers and slackers say
i guess we just have different definitions of achievement, and slacking 😊
I thought it was whatever until joining FB more than doubled my comp. and post-FB it’s been so much easier to get interviews wherever I want
Where are you now?
uber (risk neutral so don’t mind waiting for ipo)
If you care about more than $$$ it’s way overhyped. If you live for TC you’ll be hard pressed to do better
They are high paying "entry" companies. The idea is if you can get a job at one of them, you should be able to easily move to whatever you want later.
I used to think them overhyped until I joined Google :)
Maybe, maybe not but the answer is subjective. Why don't you try working and fang and non fang and see for yourself? I've worked in the banking industry as well as at Amazon and for me the problem area and tech culture make it a hands down yes.
