https://m.facebook.com/careers/jobs/a0I1200000LSOkpEAH/ Is this a SWE job? I have an onsite interview next week and I am in a dilemma about it right now. The recruiter mentioned they are looking for full stack engineers and will be working on developing internal tools for many teams across Facebook. How good is this team actually? And is the compensation in par with a regular SWE?
Dude, it's an IT job, not product. Career suicide!!!
Where is it written IT?
"As a member of BizApps, you will play a key role in re-imagining productivity by shipping transformative products that serve diverse aspects of the enterprise. " --- internal apps for business users means IT. Similar work to our IT developing org62. Also, the bottom of the page shows "more IT positions."
Yeah just saw that. It’s an absolute career suicide?
Yes if you see yourself as a product or infra dev. You're not going to grow as such and hence no serious career growth.
Yes, Enterprise Engineering is the rebranded IT. Google did the same thing, rebranding IT as Corp Eng, because they want to hire engineers who'll build newer and better systems, not just technicians who'll keep the lights on. It's not career suicide. You'll be using the same tools and frameworks as the rest of FB eng. You'll probably have more chances to build new systems, so if you're motivated and good at your job, it's easier to stand out in EE. There are downsides... Changing org structure. "EE" is still new. Less prestige/pay. This varies by team and title. If you're lucky, you'll be on par with SWE, but ask your recruiter, especially about stock.
disagree. much harder to transition out from this group to non IT groups. I know of folks who hd to accept a lower grade. I5 to E4 etc. and bumps up are harder - suspect zero I7s in IT so your career plateaus with nowhere to go.
What kind of IC5 to what kind of E4?
Ask your recruiter. If it's e grade than it is swe. If it's ic than no
This is not true or I got fucked
It's true. E grade have a higher total comp. Base for ic and e is same but ic get half of the equity and half during refreshes as well.
