I saw a person working at FB with title Frontend Engineer. Just wondering is there actually a distinction between Frontend Engineer and the normal SWE/SDE in terms of work and comp. Thanks.
Probably not an internal designation, and may be regular SDE track.
This is a thing, it involves a different interview process that is more domain specific (at least for interns). Apparently for FT pay is the same. I know someone that was FEE, not my experience
I used to put “product engineer” on my résumé since I was writing PHP at Facebook and it confused an awful lot of interviewers…
Why not just software engineer? If interviewers have familiarity with the industry and don't realize Facebook uses php (not even really php at this point), that's kind of a bad reflection on them.
That’s what I changed it to. Facebook sort of distinguishes between product/systems/iOS/Android engineers (different new hire training), and I was trying to clarify what I was doing.
No difference nor discrimination in terms of pay. In terms of work, you have to do some UI work when you start, but can almost freely switch around later on and do back end work. If the title really bothers you, you can just change your job title to SWE in workday.
You can change your job title in Workday to pretty much whatever you want…

Is there levels at Facebook? I heard the org is very flat, so how does career progression work there?
There's more to career progression than just managing. It is pretty flat but you can follow the path of SWE > Manager > Director > VP. You can also stay IC and move up to the equivalent levels too.
