Facebook Hack or JavaScript?

Hello friends, In FB frontend dev, how prevalent is Hack vs. JavaScript? If I join FB now as a frontend engineer how easy/hard will it be to find a team working in JavaScript? 8 YOE, $183k

Easy. You’ll almost certainly need to use both but this shouldn’t be a problem

You need a mindset change when you work at fb in order to succeed. You will be using number of langs, framworks used in your team, org, product. It’s very limiting to think about teams that use 1 framework or 1 language unless you’re in a specialize team like deep c++ infra team.

Does that apply to the type of SWE you are too? Like if I go in as a frontend engineer should I expect to have to work on backend stuff too or do you just mean flexibility within your role (frontend for me)?

No. It’s team dependent. But likely just flexibility within your front end role.

No escaping hack. That said, enough js options. Advantage is that some of the experience you get with js transfers nicely to other places.

The way I’ve seen is everyone is expected to be full stack, so you’re likely looking at React/JavaScript/Flow(TypeScript) heavy but still need to use Hack(PHP) and GraphQL

Yeah, I heard Google FB MSFT hire Full Stack for all web positions
