I just wanted to get your opinion on impacts of choosing an enterprise focused team/org would there be compared to some of the client focusing teams? Mainly interested in these aspects: 1) differences in chances of getting a return offer 2) stress and expectations 3) career impact (pace of progression)
1) the chances of a return offer doesn’t change based on your org/team.You’ve just got to meet all the expectations. The only cause could be the project you’re assigned. 2) stress will depend on factors like how big the project is. Again it depends on team. If you have to interact with teams on the west coast, you may have late meetings. 3) this isn’t really a concern for internships. If you get a return offer, you will go through bootcamp which is where you can try teams and choose one.
Thanks a lot for taking out time to answer. Just wanna clarify a few more things: 1. Does interns are assigned with project involving cross-geographical dependencies, and is there any product/ org/ team that is mostly centred in London? 2. What exact factors are considered while checking for expectations meet? I know a few like, completing the project, get that into production, peer reviews, can you please add anything else which I might have missed?
1. They can be. I know of someone who was. Workplace is nearly all in London (although this doesn’t necessarily mean you only interact with workplace people). With other orgs, it depends on the individual teams. 2. Its general stuff. Your intern manager will go through the formal criteria. It’s really just delivering the project, initiative to do other things e.g. writing missing tests, being easy to work with, do you write good code etc.
