I have about 12 yrs experience as a Quant finance. Currently part of a trading team at RBC. Have worked in Quant roles in the past at other banks and hedge funds. Recently was reached out by a FB recruiter for a data scientist position. I have had quite a few ups and downs in my career, I feel kinda capped out here in this space. Hence looking forward to preparing for the interview. Wondering what to expect in the interview ? I have been reading all blind posts. I have been brushing up on SQL on LC and probability on brilliant.org. How different are data scientist interviews vs software engineers. Will I be asked the same algorithms and systems design questions or just knowing SQL, python and probability, statistics is enough ? Also what other firms could I possibly apply to as a data scientist with similar comp expectations ? Appreciate any assistance. TC 450K #datascience #quant
For fb, stats prob and SQL is good
So is it fair to assume no questions on algorithms, dfs, dp, searching, trees, queues, stacks etc. ?
Yes
Follow the prep material the recruiter provides
Which is very vague and doesn't even get close to the difficulty level of the interview.
I found the prep material to be on point. It was vague, but absolutely put me on the right path as far as preparation goes.
Isn’t FB DS very different from other other companies. More like data analyst?
Yes. But the hiring bar isn't low, there's a lot of competition too
@nzeq60, would you be willing to share your own interview process and experience at Facebook?
+1
@OP, did you get the job then ?
450 would be principal level comp at Amazon (L7). Questions really depends on the specific position, it could require more ML focus or just standard stats could be fine. What does the description say?
There is no mention of ML in the description, just standard stats. Wondering someone who may have interviewed recently could throw some light on what to expect in the interviews.
Ask which team. If you have Phd and good in stats interview for Core Data Science Team at FB. They do pretty good research based data science. And their comp is tagged with SW. rest there are some teams in Infra Data Science which do good ML work too. Both on Data Center and Infra Strategy Rest all other DS teams are gloried analytics. You would be tied to a product and do analytics for that. Most of the work is exp (FB has its own Exp Tool) and lot of sql.
