"To be clear, Facebook has never sold anyone's data. Our APIs have always been free of charge and we have never required developers to pay for using them, either directly or by buying advertising." Source: https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-discussed-emails-charging-companies-for-access-to-user-data-report-2018-11 Im i missing something here? We were getting data from you guys back in 2012, and this wasn't free. https://www.cnet.com/news/bing-deepens-facebook-integration-connecting-searchers-with-friends/
How do you know it wasn't free? Which API did it use? The article talks about Microsoft developing this using Facebook's platform. I don't see anything there about Facebook providing Microsoft special access.
That article is paywalled. Some other sources reported the same story, but they didn't say anything about Microsoft, or about payment. What else do ya got?
Yes. You're missing the fact that all corporations lie all the time, blatantly.
They sell your data, we delete it without asking.. not sure which one is better. đ
If we sell the data, that's a one time transaction. We sell services that use the data, not the actual data. We did give Microsoft access to our source code to build stuff for Windows Phone, and they were able to make some nice integrations between the data they had and knowledge of all APIs available. Then we broke most of it with all our Moving Fast and what not.
Nice story bro.
FB, take note: ad interaction does not equal informed consent. And thus selling ads does equate to selling data. Selling ads that upon click give permissions to more data is just selling data with extra steps. Why doesnât Zuck acknowledge this? People see through this talking point so I donât know why you stick to it.
"Selling ads that upon click give permissions to more data"? What are you talking about?
