Facebook phone interview REJECT 🥺

5d 37 Comments

Like wtf?

It was for E4 role. We had 30 minutes for the coding task. I solved the question using 3 approaches
n2 time -> n time n space -> n time

And yet they rejected me!

FB doesn’t care how you evolve the solutions or how many approaches you have, they just want you to code up as fast as possible.

There are lots of toxic and under qualified interviewers at FB here, most interviewers only memorize one solution and don’t over estimate their algorithm ability.

You should do some research about FB interview style next time.

      Great thanks.

The dude seemed decent and reasonable though.

I’m just not fb material then. This dude made it there but can’t even see the problem made in this post

You didn't ask a question. You complained that an interview didn't go your way and assumed it was becasue of code when it could have been a variety of things. It wouldn't be uncommon to apply multiple times; that's the nature of interviewing. Humility is also key :)

You solved only 1 question. Facebook expects 2 questions.

Optimal for one for sure. Second one depends on how far you get along and if the interviewer is nice enough to give you another shot. I had 2 phone interviews and then got onsite where I screwed up 🙄

You need to be prefect to solve 2q optimally in 45 minutes. I can’t solve 2 medium on leetcode in 45 minutes, doing it in an interview is out of question

Cheer up. Apply to Google. We expect only 1 question to be solved in 45 mins :) if you’re quick it will just be an extension of the original question which can be solved in 5-10 mins.

Best of luck! Not everything is in our hands. We can only do best with what we have and only control some things.

Yea they expect you to solve 2 mediums in 30-40 min.

Yes they expect 2 Q's to be completed in the 45 min interview ! The second one needs to be at least correct in approach and coded to some extent (the interviewer should be convinced it'll work if completed)

I recently gave a Facebook phone interview where I wrote code for all the 3 problems that he asked me in 45 mins. The recruiter ghosted me for a month and when my friend who works at Facebook followed up with her, she did not reply to him but sent a rejection email to me. Unprofessional!!

I had the first one working and got the second one almost working with some help/push from the interviewer and I still got a reject ! This was for a software engg position. It's been a really bad start to the year (I just flunked a Microsoft on site last week) ! Hope the year gets better :(

You coded up all three approaches within 30 minutes? Are you sure there were no bug? Did you handle all the edge cases?

Yes! It is a medium question on leetcode with high frequency.

Two issues I can see are:
      1. In the most optimal code, I did if check and inside if while check do something. The if was redundant.

      2. For the second approach after coding up, the code failed for one of the test scenario which I said it would pass. Then the interviewer reiterated that it won’t actually pass.
