In comparison to SWE and whats the difference in the pay like how would a E5 SWE and secuirty engineer compare in terms of comp and refreshers. Trying to decide if its worth spending time on the process. #facebook #securityengineer
What is security engineer? Never heard. We have swe working on security. Same pay.
lol, that shows the level of ignorance. Assuming you are not trolling; this is what a security engineer does https://www.facebook.com/careers/jobs/237134750927663/?utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic
I know swe also joined this team. They have swe pay. Why not apply swe and join this team?
Security eng are in same ladder SWE AFAIK.
Yes. Confirmed SWE comp = Security Engineer comp
OP share your expectations with the recruiter and they will let you know if they get close to it. Also FB has strong security teams and engineers , I would be more worried about getting an offer first
You seem to not have much experience working with recruiters. They are incentivized to lie or make things up so you go through with their team. I have had multiple recruiters reach out each bad mouthing others teams so I am confused. I also don’t want to waste my time going through the process when things don’t make sense.
Security Engineer here. Same pay. Focus at FB is mostly on building tools / scaling and less on pentesting.
Comp between the two are similar. Google bets out on equity for 3-4 level but 5-6 it's much closer alligned. Base comp and bonus structure is pretty equal. SWE with security focused and application security engineer comp is equivalent at both.

Brother beaten severely as a kid. Doesn’t speak to dad at all now.
I interviewed a month or two ago and when I said I had a pending Google offer and an aggressive timeline the recruiter said “in my experience Google pay more and we wouldn’t be able o give as strong an offer anyway”. It was a weird experience. They also just laid off ~22 of their detection engineering people so I guess that’s a risk.
Security is not their priority I would guess. BTW what was your google offer? Was it a SWE security role?
Nothing crazy. L5, 200 base, 800/4, 50k sign on. Not a SWE Security Engineer, job title is just senior security engineer and I’m not a swe (but had two coding rounds).
