Failed a bunch and then got Google!
Current TC: 250 YOE: 16 Failed with Netflix, Disney Streaming and Robinhood. Was getting a bit frustrated then applied to Google. Just after a week of my on-site, recruiter called me to congratulate! (L5) Now I don't yet have any other offers but FB might also give me some good news next week.#engineering #swe Update: Failed with FB - feedback: all rounds went well, was asked to redo behavioral round THREE times and still failed Failed with Compass - feedback: very positive on tech rounds but poor on behavioral interview.

I think they might be turning around for better. But personally I didn't see much growth potential for myself.

I am of the camp which does feel a bit ambivalent about leetcode. I thought my coding rounds went fine and my system design went bad but turns out one of the coding rounds didn't get the best review. I think I spent a bit longer than the interviewer expected and he didn't manage to thus ask me a follow up.
Overall google and FB interviewers are very amicable and helpful and generally value communication regarding how you're solving problems more than speed and accuracy of the solution IMO. E.g. I asked questions about edge cases and also described how I am trying to optimize a solution. And that seemed to be likes by most interviewers.
My current TC was supposed to be 275k but AQR slashed it's bonuses this year.

What’s your preparation strategy ? What topics you covered ?
Well I did some leetcode for about 8 weeks. And read Grokking book (https://educative.io) for design questions. Also, practiced behavioral interviews a few days before the interview. For system design, practiced a format where I'd have generic steps that I'd follow. Also, reacquainted with how Cassandra, Redis, etc. work. Specific technology knowledge is not sought for by Google and FB during interviews but I find studying them very helpful.

Well I think they didn't find me enthusiastic enough. Which was just my attempt at trying to find the responsibilities of the role. I like Scala and would have liked to work there. And I know they pay not too well but I was wondering if they'll make up for it through stocks.
