Failing SDE interviews. Move to PM/SE/other?

Dec 3, 2018 3 Comments

Not doing too hot on SDE interviews with startups, mid tier, or FANG. Currently a SWE at Tier 2 company (not Hitachi) and getting 9/10 on perform reviews but I need a change. Technically sound but anxiety/pressure/ nervousness really gets me in the moment. Trying for about 6 months sparingly. I do great on design/culture interviews and I am well spoken and articulate. I like the technical part of being a SDE and don't really want to give it up. But thinking about switching my career path to being a PM/SE. There's still a technical part of the role that I see from the people that I work with, but more people and process oriented. What I know about the interviews, there are less coding problems. Should I keep trying or give up and change? Yoe 3, TC 140

If anxiety is an issue then it will be an even bigger issue as PM/TPM.

What he said. I have a severe anxiety disorder after 15 yrs in PM. I’m trying to move back to a tech role.

I meant in the interview, not for work. But understandable.
