Say one of my siblings is a US citizen. I am not. But I understand there's family based green cards that I become eligible for. https://www.uscis.gov/greencard/family-preference Has anyone done this before? If so what is the timeline for getting your visa? I am also Indian, and that may change everything in terms of timeline, but I was curious to compare this timeline vs the traditional work visa ==> green card route
That’s like more than 10 years wait time.
15 years atleast last i checked
17 years
A relative recently got it. His brother applied 14 years ago.
Holy moly!
Thanks all - One question I had from the above document was around preference, it seems like siblings fall under F4 - what does that mean. Also is there any inherent advantage of doing this, over the traditional work visa route?
You will at least get the GC before your death if you apply through the family route. I believe the wait time is over 10 years if you are married. Now compare that to EB2.

Screw it. Don't care anymore. Let Israel take it. One state solution.
Approximately 8-12 years from the day your brother is able to file and sponsor you. If you have kids and a wife, it might be longer. Once you are approved for F4 though, your green card will be in hands within a week after landing in US.
It's important to have a great immigration lawyer on this. Without any RFE hickups or other procedural delays, you should realistically see the timeframe I described above.
Wait a minute. How do you know it's brother?
