Talked to the guy on the phone, could barely make out what he was saying due to heavy accent, passed.

  • Best decision of my life to do it. 2xed my comp. I had done a lot of leetcode but couldn't pass interviews. This course showed me why. Made lifelong friends and learnt from some great teachers.

Dhr, I didn't like the IK system design much. Which year did you do IK?

Did you do the program remotely or in person? I wonder if any networking opportunities come out of this course for someone participating remotely.

The system design course is not that good at IK. Coming from a totally different background, I found that I lacked even the ideas for talking about scalable system. And I don't believe this can be done in few classes. But if you are already conversant on this topic, I think you can level up your skills.

Thanks. I agree system design could not be taught in few classes. What topics exactly they covered in System Design course ? And how was the mock interview?

    • I loved their Design curriculum. I had a tad bit of background, so it felt perfectly relevant. I could clear my G interview only because of the sensibilities they gave me.

    • I knew solutions but could not transfer them to new problems easily. Also knowing a solution and navigating an interviewer through it were very different skills. Also when their instructors taught, it created a clear picture of what is expected within and beyond knowing solutions. All this happened over and over again, such that I was so much more confident when I went into my interviews. I could see the entire thing as a human experience instead of a quest to pass test-cases, which leetcode makes us believe.

So like they were expecting a discussion of possible solutions, instead of diving straight to trying one out?

For me IK was very helpful. The system design part gave me a enough foundation so that I could continue to study by myself. You can decide for yourself what you want to do in the mock interviews, e.g. do 10 System Design rounds.

Got L5 offers from Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and a few startups.

  • Useless. You play interviewers in interviews, not interviews themselves
