Trying to interview outside but there are very few remote companies hiring and the ones hiring aren't paying even half of what I make at Airbnb. I am becoming too comfortable here, work hasnt been challenging for a while now and feels like I'm coasting and not learning much day to day. I've built a lot of context on various systems here and most of my time is now being spent on unblocking others and providing clarity, I swear I've written like 10 docs this week alone. Anyone else in the same boat as me? I even interviewed at some hybrid companies like ServiceNow, Paypal, Salesforce and was surprised to learn that the comp is much lower compared to FAANG. Even a senior staff at these companies makes less than senior eng at most FAANG. Feels like I don't have many options, I may have to join hyper growth startups for the paper money and wait for IPO FAANG matched my TC but did not go higher. Any suggestions? TC: 545k (260k base) #servicenow #paypal #faang
Are you crazy? Don’t leave a full remote company that pays top dollar
Never understood this thinking. Sure learning is important but why does it matter when you’re on the path to early retirement with these kind of gigs
Build something on the side to test your passion. But AirBnB paying you that for a chill job is a dream for nearly everyone. It’s not worth the stress of going to another FAANG that will overwork you.
Salesforce pays 320 to 500k for lmts / pmts . Architects definitely make more than that . Definitely not high as faang . You got lucky with abnb though . So you have to ack that and readjust your expectations.
By FAANG you mean Amazon? salesforce doesn’t pay as well as Amazon?
No
Some suggestions: 1. Propose bold initiatives and lead the project 2. Develop mechanism that improve the efficiency and technical expertise of your peers 3. Focus on personal projects and look at starting your own company Key takeaway: find or create the challenging tasks, don’t wait for them to arrive.
💯
Lol, “im making so much money but I’m bored. Why don’t other companies pay as much!! This sucks!”
Okay definitely did not want to come off like that. I am grateful but hoping to find something meaningful and challenging while making the same money. Once you get to a certain TC it's hard to go back
Yes, listen to yourself. “I make so much money, I can’t find a job I like. There just aren’t enough companies will to support my million dollar lifestyle” Thousands of people are getting laid off and you’re complaining that companies won’t pay you enough and you’re “stuck doing boring work” “Like don’t these tech companies know they have to pay $500k a year for me to grace them with my expertise?! What’s wrong with them?”
You’re stuck at Airbnb. You got golden handcuffs.
I could use that base to pay my bills
Is this satire
Then don’t leave LMAO. Easy
