Is it OK to not be a top performer? I’ve been lazy af. Doing the bare minimum to get by. Don’t think I’ll get fired but my higher ups don’t like me that much bc I’m coasting. I want to do better work. But it’s hard to find the drive. TC: 400k
Try to find one thing per quarter you can put your name on that’s genuinely useful, that would take at most 2 sprints of genuine work to get done. Then coast the other 2/3rds of the quarter. Your manager will be hard pressed during review that you did nothing of value. BUT you still get to coast the vast majority of the time.
It's a good path towards depression/burnout/layoffs. Find a different team/company/role that will make you feel motivated.
How many years of experience and what is the base pay vs stocks??
Why wasting you life to do work that you don't like?
15-20 years of work you don't like vs 40-50 of work you do like (assuming the thing you like is fun and lower compensated). Retiring early sounds good to me personally
If higher ups don’t like you why do you think you won’t get fired?
