Feels s#$t at work

I feel that I am not competent enough. Or I am made felt that way. I joined 6 months back. Everything was new to me. There is this old employee of this company in my team, she behaves differently with me than with others. She made me feel I am amount to nothing. And that behavior makes me feel even bad. I am trying to learn new stuff. Guys whats your take on this. Assume you have a team member that is not functioning upto the expectation, what would you say to him/her.

Grow up and get used to this feeling

Don't know. Getting used to it doesn't work. It has to change

Are you being annoying to teammates? Is the given workload difficult for you? Do you work to improve or get paid? If you are not meeting the expectation, then try to meet the bar by spending more time working/studying?

Honestly I think I am not annoying to anyone. But yes definitely need to work hard

Work hard, get confident and others will recognize it

This helps.

Yeah I had an a colleague do that to me once. You can just ignore them. In the end you have to do your best to not let it get to you. Like if you let that person’s opinions dictate your confidence or perspective about yourself, you’re giving them a lot of power. Some people just suck and you have to try to ignore it

Microsoft kapps Dec 13, 2019

Ignoring is not the answer imo. Just gonna feel worse. Recognize the reason behind how things are, and follow logic not emotions

Or adding to above. Talk to manager for new work, or transfer to another team

I think moving away is not really right thing. Especially given im just 6 months here.

Where is your manager in all this? Are you clear on what your job is, what your tasks & deliverables are? Do you know what metrics you’re being measured on? These are good questions to ask your manager. It is also a great idea to ask them to provide you with expectations for your role & projects. Once you have a handle on these and you’re getting feedback from your manager (which you should never hesitate to ask for every few months if they are not providing it), you can then focus on taking on more projects, asking team members how you can help and being generally proactive. If your teammates senior to you and you’re expected to provide support to them etc, you should repeat this framework with each of them.

Some people don’t give attention or kindness until you earn it. They look at people based on whatever value they measure, title, competence or attractiveness and they treat you like you’re not worth it till the score somehow goes up. It’s shitty because they forgot we all are humans. You have two choices to earn their respect: either play their game and change your score (prove you’re smart or get promoted) or force them to respect you by bringing up to HR. The latter one might not work. One thing you shouldn’t do is that you try to make friends with her. That’ll feed into her ego more and she’ll look down on you.
