Hi , Is it worth making a move for a slight change in TC Bump (30K Tc) to Snowflake from Fidelity Investments Its a complete remote role at Snowflake and Fidelity is like 3 days a week office. WLB / Job security is good at Fidelity , but is it worth making a move to snowflake at these times . Only Pro i see is a better brand, also role will be changing from data engineering to a solution architect (not sure if its a regular consulting kind of role or some thing different) Any one from snowflake can you please comment about wlb,Job security, lay off/Pip culture. TC: 180K #Snowflake #fidelityinvestments
You can always go back to Fid why not take a risk if you can tolerate it?
Minor tc bump and switching from data platform engineering to sol architect. So for these reasons i am thinking even though snowflake brand is better than fidelity
Very minor TC increase I think WLB will be worse. So you’d actually make less per hour after calculations
Why will WLB be worse? You have no idea what you’re talking about
You’re right - it was just an assumption, didn’t see WLB being taken into account in OP
I personally tell everyone to leave fidelity (I will be soon), but you might be the first person who I'd suggest not to. First of all consulting is hell, I was in the big 4 and took a pay cut for fidelity just because it was so shitty (long hours, stupid work) . The market is incredibly bearish on snowflake. If you're going to jump ship it needs to be for more money and to somewhere more secure
The rest of your comment I agree with but Solution consulting isn’t really true consulting. It’s basically giving basic insight on implementations to address the concerns of the customer so the salespeople can sell better but not actually doing any of the implementation work (not sure if snowflake implements in house or not but if they did it would be a different role name)
I was a "solutions engineer" and the actual grunt work is just as tedious as regular consulting. Really it's going to set OP up as some sort of architect or project manager. But fair point 👍
Snow is much better except Consultant is a wildly different role than SWE. I'd stear clear unless it's what you want, because it's considered by many to be a substantial downgrade
I’d agree with this. Engineer -> consultant is an odd move.
Hi McSnow - my understanding of solution architect role at snowflake is more of typical big4 consulting work rather than any hands on work , please let me know if thats not right . How is it different from other consulting companies incase.
Try if you can negotiate a raise from Fidelity with this offer.
I have been only less than a year at fidelity , you think he can change my salary if i talk with them with remote or how do i start the discussion without being greedy and negative? I didn’t plan to change , but the brand/remote option is something i am thinking
Yeah Fidelity is going to ask everyone to do 3 days a month soon. I'd say chat with your manager, say something like "I got an offer from snowflake, and it's 40k higher (inflate a little), and full remote, but I really love the company, the team, and your leadership, so I want to see if Fidelity could potentially match the offer? I think I can make a great impact to the team's mission, (list a couple things you already did, and how you can help on a couple initiatives high on your team/manager's list. Better with examples and numbers)". Be ready to walk away though if things don't work out
I wouldn’t loose Fidelity for 30K change, Instead look for Internal mobility, you will make more and Remote flexibility also available depending on BU

You can definitely negotiate with your hiring manager based on the offer you have, They will reasonably accommodate your request, I have seen in the past
You should also look at other benefit such as benefit sharing , 401k match . What grade are you at ??
I am at level 6 , the total comp i mentioned is including the 10% sharing and 7% match for fidelity into 401k. Otherwise excluding these its at 162k.
Are you not getting any bonus and shares .
No shares , just bonus. Total tc i mentioned includes (base+bonus+profit sharing and 401 match)

Are you including shares ??
Are you asking for snowflake , if so yes , including shares . For fidelity i didnt get any shares
30k is not much of a bump
