Sharing my roller-coaster journey of TC. Joined Meta at the peak of stock in Summer 2021 with the 650K TC in Seattle. Was working at AWS as SDE 3 previously at 500K. The comp went down to a Meta E4 comp of 350K when stock went to 90$. I was also working 50 hours a week. Than Meta layoffs happened and I lost some really good colleagues. There was a point where I was thinking of giving up as nothing matters and do the bare minimum work. A lot of people at Meta did that. But I got myself out of that. Finally, with good rating (GE / equivalent of an Amazon TT), I got same refresher as my joining stocks. 2X of stocks and the stock becoming 2X (90->180) I got my comp back to 650K. Not everyone's journey is like that. I got lucky to have a really good supporting Manager who fought for me and gave me the opportunity (not every Manager is bad). And a positive attitude that thing will become better, I continued to work hard. This is different than the previous journeys on Blind where we leetcode hard and 2X our comp. This is just a journey of getting to 650, losing it to half, and getting it back again. 650K in Seattle is huge. I have recently paid-off my house, so I don't worry about expenses that much. Why Pronouns shit captured US ? I don’t see this anywhere else
You know they are going to do another lay off right?
You didn’t lose anything, you got your base, your rsu recovered before they vested
Plus I got equivalent of New hire stocks.
Congrats… or sorry that happened to you.
Ok cool story bro
working 50 hours for only 350K much less 650k...this is why people say tech is overpaid
Good for you. But in summer 2021 the average stock price was $350, isn't it. It means your RSUs are still valued half of what they were awarded at. I joined the same time, and boomerang back to Amazon.
Lol only 650k at 16yoe? 575k at 5yoe now git gud
The peak was 380 not 180. But congrats, for now. Better hope it doesn’t go down.
Congrats man! I had a similar journey at E5, started at $450k comp. Dropped to sub ~$300k in November, stressed about layoffs (even kind of hoped they would happen to me cus I was so pissed and checked out). Now tc is back to $450K and I’m feeling good. You’re extremely wealthy with that Tc and a paid off home. What are you’re financial goals in life. I imagine you could retire in just 2-3 years if you wanted to given your situation.
