Tech companies like Google and Meta made steep cuts to DEI programs in 2023 https://www.cnbc.com/2023/12/22/google-meta-other-tech-giants-cut-dei-programs-in-2023.html?__source=iosappshare%7Ccom.apple.UIKit.activity.CopyToPasteboard

MSFT is the worst, they probably have a huge DEI quota.
What is a quota? Hopefully in this day and age we aren’t saying that certain people aren’t qualified for their jobs because of race/color etc. 😳
Perhaps in recruiting they do. As a hiring manager, I don’t have a quota, but I’m forced to interview only 3 candidates per position, and one of the candidates has to be female and one has to be a racial minority.
Importing departments full of highly paid political activists who do not produce anything of financial value was always a dumb idea. If anything, they mostly made relationships between different ethnic groups worse, when they made a difference at all.

Uh-oh, last chance for me to get hired as a token female engineer! I don’t know about all this. 100% of interns and college hires in our org have been what you’d call diverse over the past 3-4 years, including this year.
Would you pay attention to the intern hires if they weren’t diverse?
What kind of a question is that? What are you insinuating?
DEI is important but companies have executed it exemplarily poorly. The people who set it up took everything literally. Now they’re pedaling back still not understanding what they’re doing. That being said, when it’s poorly executed, the smaller the nuisance, the better, so, I say eliminate all DEI departments as they’re right now, then get the idea right, then execute properly.

Let’s see if they really cut it. Zuck said they will cut middle management last year. Friend working there mentioned he cut Ic and added more middle management. Dei is worst as I remember many people get free pass in interviews. It equivalent of just showing up in interviews and getting offers. Know many people like that. Cisco has huge populations of toxic female mgrs who do nothing
Finally, maybe they'll hire more Americans instead of importing cheap labor
cheap labor?
@youpsi2.0 supply and demand - import more workers, drive wages down

Good. Should have never existed in the first place.
It needs to exist but properly executed and likely as part of HR and design, and not as an independent department. Execution is all wrong. They need to nuke and restart with the right ideas.
What are the right ideas?
