Not an isolated case. Happens often enough in the company to where while it's of course shocking in the moment, it's not surprising. Curious if anyone has experience working with an employment lawyer to negotiate a severance package. Appreciate any expertise / guidance / referrals šš». #employmentlaw #legalcounsel #termination #severance #layoff #Google #Meta #Amazon #Microsoft #Airbnb #Spotify #Pinterest #Snowflake #Samsara #Block
Last time I checked, employment is at will. Means any party can end the relationship with or without a reason.
That's fucking horse shit. If you want a referral to my current place (the one next to my name) lemme know. You can use it as interview practice if you want.
You can still sue if they broke their code of conduct and published policies. If you're angry, call an employment lawyer for a consultation.
Racial biased? Sounds like that manager backstabbed
I donāt think its easy to use the racial card unless Op is in some āprotectedā groups
Were you fired for cause?
Silent layoff comes into play šØ
TC? Could be āoverpaidā but youre the only one with the most accurate guess.
You arenāt going to win any legal victory without tons of hard evidence of actual discrimination against some legally protected attribute. It may be worth contracting a labor attorney just to have them look over your severance package and make recommendations. But your employer has absolutely no incentive to implement any changes that the attorney suggests. That said, I worked at PayPal and got laid off. I took the severance letter to an Labor/Employment attorney, and he made one suggestion about moving like $10k of the package to a different classification (like, āFuture education reimbursementā), and much to both his and my surprise, PayPal accepted the changes. Net effect to me was that $10k of the severance moved to a non-taxed status.
That sucks! DM for f5 referral
Move to Europe at least we have employment laws to prevent this sort of shenanigans
@nannetb but Europeans often do not need to pay for their kids college education. We pay $80k a year per kid. Think about that for a moment, not to mention healthcare and retirement cares
Americans think money is equal to happiness lol. Even though none of the money stays in their pockets, theyāre like a dog chasing its tail
