Flights to India through booking.com

I am looking at booking 4 tickets to India. On the same airline (Singapore) there is a $1500 difference between booking.com and booking directly with Singapore. Same difference on Cathay Pacific. The only thing I could find out is that the lower fare is eligible for only one checking bag, which I am fine with. Any gotchas when going with booking.com? Searching on Reddit a lot of people mention booking directly with the airline, but is this just FUD or are third party sites such as booking and Expedia really that bad? I have used these for domestic travel with no issues but am worried about international travel. Update 1: I have booked through booking.com. The final ticket I booked was $900 per ticket cheaper than the airlines’ website. I purchased insurance of $89 per ticket to protect in case of illness. I will update my experience here after the trip. Thanks to everyone who responded. 🙏 TC 500k Yoe 4

So ?! Just because someone makes more money doesn’t mean they get robbed ?! Why pay extra for literally the same service ?!

Booking.com partners with third party travel sites. If you need to make changes, that's when you find out why it's cheaper

Check if the airline has a price guarantee, and take them up on it.

i think the advise they give about booking directly on the website is when there are changes to travel plans (probably travel plans cancel or travel dates change) you would have to pay lot for these kind of changes if you book through third party. so if travel is 100% confirmed and no chance of change go ahead book with third party. although some times third party websites change fares and display different fare when you go to the final page

I think they have some pricing data sync issue. I tried booking 10 times with low prices at the end it fails to book.

Try booking directly with airline you will be having more peace, I tried in past booking via some 3rd party website ticket was cheap and I was just going back to pick my family but realized they messed up my luggage so I decided to only stick with good airlines and directly with them.

What does the the third party site have to do with baggage?

I would always book on airline website… My family was travelling to India through a stop-over in Europe on a ticket booked through Expedia. The first flight got delayed, leading to the next flight being missed…. Long story short, the people who booked with the airline were prioritized to take the next connection, and we were asked to call the vendor to get on the next connecting flight… never again…!

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Just to update you. I booked already via booking.com and confirmed with the airline that in case of delays they will take care of me. They explicitly said that once the boarding pass has been issued the airline treats me the same as any other passenger in the same fare class.

Booking needs to improve flight client support. The reality is that, if something will happen, you will be left alone to deal with that. Booking did a mess with my reservation, i arrived at the airport and discovered my ticket was being cancelled. It took me 6 months to have my money back, and I work for that company
