Trying to make the move to Florida. tired of the cold. new TC is 260k. Was preferring south florida but heard schools suck and is becoming increasingly dangerous(got a 7 year old). places im interested in: miami, doral, fort lauderdale, boca raton think this will hurt my career? more jobs are remote now but idk if companies will continue this. obviously florida is not a tech hub. tax: 210k tc yoe 5
I’m in the same position. I did a lot of searching, especially around Fort Myers and Orlando. Houses are crazy pricy for a poor quality house/property. I decided to wait and check in 12 to 18 months. Schools were also impossible to find.
school is the main issue with me as well.. seems like all the good schools are up north.
Florida is notorious for non-compete clauses in their contracts. Be careful.

We just left Fort Lauderdale and it was trash. We would not feel safe raising kids there. There was a shooting at the restaurant we were going to for dinner one day and we had to turn around
Whereabouts in FLL did you live? Coral Ridge, Victoria Park, Las Olas, Cole Hammock are good areas to live and raise kids

Nah, go to palm beach county, stay away from Dade and Broward unless you do west Broward
Check Tampa and Jacksonville if you can work remote. Life will be bit slow if that is something you would like.
Why would that hurt your career given that WFH is becoming a norm?
I live in one of the most safest zip codes, families bike ride to school which is only a mile away through nice sidewalks and tree lined streets, safety guards everywhere, non gated community in north palm beach county. Also HOA is $80 and our streets get cleaned, oak trees trimmed, and neighbors are friendly but keep to themselves. HOA board is fair and friendly, doesn’t fine you for every little shit. We have both i95 and turnpike super close. We take the Brightline train to Fort Lauderdale and Miami to visit family and friends and GTFO back into our safe/clean haven
