For Data Scientists here at large tech companies, how did you land your job and what was your interview prep strategy?

Hey y’all, for DS here who’ve managed to get jobs at large tech companies (Faang, msft, Lyft, snowflake etc etc), how did you prepare for your interviews and what resources did you use. What books/websites did you find most helpful?

I’m a DS manager who’s done many interviews. In combination of preparation for the technical interview, make sure you have the behavioral + talk track down for existing projects. After you get passed entry level roles, existing projects + behavioral are very critical. Always show you know the end to end impact of your work and business strategy. Usually at Amazon expect tests on depth in a data science domain you specialize in OR the team specializes in (tailor interview prep on both). Breadth in many different DS disciplines (usually based on what’s needed for the specific team). SQL + Python is typically required for most roles as well — so expect some type of assessment.

This is a bit vague. From a scientist perspective isn’t most of the work based on machine learning and signal development?

Needs for a DS differs between teams of course. Kept it vague for that reason. For example NLP, tabular, time series is expected and tested for my team. But most people can do the technical work, how can you be sure they can get the right requirements and create the right output based on businesses strategy

Amazon, what kind of NLP questions are usually tested in an interview? And how can someone prep for it?
